Nissan Formula E driver Oliver Rowland secured his first Monaco win to extend his lead in the FIA Drivers’ World Championship standings. The win was his third in six races this season and meant that his championship lead is now 34 points over reigning champion
Pascal Wehrlein with a total of 94 points heading into the second Monaco race in ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Round 7 today (Sunday May 4th).

 How It Happened

On Saturday, 3 May 2025, the prestigious streets of Monaco hosted the 2025 Monaco E-Prix, Round 6 of the FIA Formula E World Championship. It was here that Nissan’s Oliver Rowland delivered an exemplary performance, securing a decisive victory amidst an event characterised by strategic nuance and intense competition.

Rowland’s triumph was not merely a race win; it represented a significant milestone in his career, marking his inaugural victory on the revered Monaco circuit. This achievement consolidates his position as a leading contender in the 2024/25 season. With three victories from the opening six races, Rowland now boasts an impressive 50% win rate, reflecting both consistent performance and strategic acumen. His latest success has extended his lead in the FIA Drivers’ World Championship standings to 34 points over reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein. Wehrlein concluded the race in sixth position, bringing his total to 60 points, while Rowland’s tally has reached an imposing 94 points heading into Round 7.

Central to Rowland’s success was Nissan’s strategic proficiency, particularly the effective utilisation of the PIT BOOST. This tactical decision proved pivotal, enabling Rowland to overtake polesitter Taylor Barnard of the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team on Lap 13. Although Rowland temporarily relinquished the lead to Mahindra Racing’s Nyck de Vries on Lap 26, he responded with commendable precision. By activating his final ATTACK MODE on Lap 27, Rowland reclaimed the lead and maintained this advantage with exceptional composure, ultimately crossing the finish line with a comfortable two-second margin.

The Andretti team experienced mixed outcomes during the event. Jake Dennis, despite a commendable drive, received a five-second penalty which affected his final standing, relegating him to third place. His teammate, Nico Mueller, initially claimed fourth position, only to be overtaken at the finish line by Eduardo Mortara of Mahindra Racing, resulting in a fifth-place finish.

Nyck de Vries’ second-place result was notable, marking his first podium finish since the London E-Prix in 2022 and representing Mahindra Racing’s first podium since the 2023 Mexico City E-Prix. These achievements underscore both individual and team progress within the championship.

In the FIA Teams’ World Championship standings, Porsche currently leads Nissan by a margin of nine points (114 to 105). Conversely, Nissan holds a lead over Porsche in the FIA Manufacturers’ World Championship standings, reflecting the competitive dynamics of the season.

The 2025 Monaco E-Prix will be remembered not only for its historic setting but also for the demonstration of strategic excellence and driving mastery, as exemplified by Oliver Rowland’s distinguished performance.
