Nina Gademan has had victory slip through her hands twice this year. Shanghai, where technical gremlins robbed her. Montreal, where late-race drama pulled it away again.

But on home soil, and on her 22nd birthday, the Alpine driver finally delivered.

Starting from reverse-grid pole in Race 1 at Zandvoort, she controlled the pace, kept her nerve, and turned it into a lights-to-flag win.

Calm Under Pressure

On Friday she was ruled unfit for FP2. A setback that looked like it might derail her weekend. But she bounced back in qualifying, grabbing eighth and earning pole for the reverse grid.

Once the lights went out, she didn’t blink. Nailed the launch. Settled in through the opening laps. And when the Safety Car came, her restart was just as sharp — keeping the field behind.

By mid-distance the gap was over two seconds. Enough to keep Lia Block at arm’s length, and enough to stop any late charge.

“I kept my head down because you can’t let the emotions get away with you,” Gademan said. “I had a really good start, a good restart, and then it was just about managing it home.”

Track Position the Key

At Zandvoort, overtaking is always tough. Gademan knew it, and she played it perfectly.

Cover Turn 1. Guard Turn 11. Stay tidy everywhere else. Block never found a way through. Behind them, Maya Weug was charging from eighth to third, proving passes could be made but only with effort.

“Lia was close, but I knew it was going to be tough for her,” Gademan admitted. “Maya did a mega job from P8 to P3. She was really fast.”

Block Breaks Through

For Lia Block, second place was its own win. Her first F1 Academy podium, built on patience and smart tyre management.

Starting third, she swept past Tina Hausmann at Turn 1 and chased after Gademan. When the Alpine slipped out of reach, she switched focus. Protect the tyres. Hold position. Stay sharp at the end.

It worked. Weug’s late charge put her under fire, but Block hung on to grab her first silverware at the 23rd attempt.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Block said. “Singapore last year was so close, so I feel relieved to finally be here. Maya and I had a good battle in the last two laps, my tyres were gone, but I managed to hang on.”

It also gave ART Grand Prix their first podium since Bianca Bustamante’s second place in Miami last year.

“We’re not really going for the title anymore, so it’s more of a risk-it-for-the-biscuit mentality,” Block added. “Starting P6 tomorrow, I’ll be looking to go forward again.”

A Win Worth Waiting For

Two wins had slipped away earlier this season. Twenty-seven laps led without a victory until today. This time, Gademan wasn’t to be denied.

The roar from the Dutch fans said it all. A home win, a birthday celebration, and a maiden career triumph in F1 Academy.

“We’ve been waiting for this one a long time,” Gademan said. “This should have been our third win already! But to take it here, in front of my home fans, is just fantastic.”

The Bigger Picture

  • Gademan: finally gets her win after a season of near-misses.
  • Block: first podium, a huge boost after a difficult run.
  • Weug: battled through from eighth to third, showing why Ferrari value her racecraft.

Championship Picture

Doriane Pin stays out front on 116 points. Gademan’s breakthrough lifts her to 95, cutting the gap and pulling her into the fight. Block rises to 88, while Weug holds steady on 81.

PREMA still control the teams’ battle with steady points. But Alpine’s home win adds new life to the chase.

What’s Next

Zandvoort gave Gademan her breakthrough and Block her long-awaited podium. Both will carry momentum into Sunday’s second race.

Race 2 runs tomorrow, another chance for the title fight to take a twist.
