The FIA Formula 2 Championship will race in North America for the first time in its history, with Miami and Montreal confirmed as Rounds 2 and 3 of the 2026 season. The two new venues replace the Sakhir and Jeddah rounds that will not take place in April, with Miami hosting F2 on 1-3 May and Montreal following on 22-24 May alongside Formula 1.

Key Points: Formula 2 Miami Montreal 2026
- Miami and Montreal join the 2026 FIA Formula 2 calendar as Rounds 2 and 3
- First time the FIA Formula 2 Championship has raced in North America
- Miami takes place 1-3 May, Montreal follows 22-24 May, both alongside Formula 1
- Both rounds replace Sakhir and Jeddah, which will not take place in April
- Miami and Montreal are subject to WMSC approval
- The series returns to Europe from Monte-Carlo on 4-7 June
Why Miami and Montreal
The removal of Sakhir and Jeddah from the April schedule created a gap in the F2 calendar early in the season. Rather than leave that gap open, the championship worked with Formula 1, the FIA, and the promoters of the Miami and Canadian Grands Prix to add two completely new venues to the calendar in a short timeframe. Both events run alongside Formula 1 weekends, maintaining the championship’s standard operating structure.
Miami slots in on 1-3 May as Round 2, with Montreal following on 22-24 May as Round 3. After Canada, the series heads to Monte-Carlo on 4-7 June to begin the European leg of the season. The full revised calendar now runs to 14 rounds, concluding in Yas Island in December.
What They Said
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, welcomed the addition of both rounds.
“While it has not been possible to go ahead with the two races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia this month, and we look forward to being back with our passionate fans there as soon as possible, it is great news for our fans, the drivers and the teams that Formula 2 will be racing in Miami and Montreal.”
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO, Formula 1
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem highlighted the significance of the championship reaching North America for the first time.
“Bringing the championship to North America via Miami and Montreal for the first time marks an important step in its continued global growth, strengthening the pathway alongside Formula One and connecting with new audiences.”
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President
FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel confirmed the addition had been a major operational effort, but one the championship had long wanted to pursue.
“Bringing F2 to North America for the first time is really fantastic. It’s something we have been wanting to do for a long time, and it enables us to ensure we’re back racing as quickly as possible.”
Bruno Michel, CEO, FIA Formula 2

Coffee Corner Take
This is a significant moment for Formula 2. The championship has never raced in North America and adding two rounds there in the same season, both alongside Formula 1, is not a small thing logistically or commercially. The fact it happened quickly, off the back of two Middle East rounds falling through, tells you how much both F1 and the FIA wanted to protect the calendar rather than accept a shortened season.
Miami and Montreal are two of the strongest Grand Prix weekends on the F1 calendar for atmosphere and audience. Putting F2 in front of those crowds for the first time opens the series to a completely new fanbase. North American motorsport audiences know IndyCar, they know NASCAR, but F2 as the direct pipeline to Formula 1 is largely unfamiliar territory there. These two rounds are as much about visibility as they are about replacing lost race days.
The caveat is that both Miami and Montreal are still subject to WMSC approval. That is standard process, but it is worth noting before treating the calendar as fully locked. If both clear, this reshapes what the 2026 F2 season looks like from a geography standpoint in a way that could have longer-term implications for where the championship goes next.
