Nikola Tsolov took his fifth win of the season at Silverstone, hunting down championship rival Gabriele Minì before finding the move on the run to the flag. Minì locked up into the Loop at the start of the final lap. Tsolov had DRS and the run down Wellington Straight. He took it. Minì held on for second, an eighth podium of the season for the MP Motorsport driver, with Rafael Villagómez completing the podium in third for Van Amersfoort Racing. Race Recap: F2 Silverstone Sprint Race 2026

The Start

Minì got the better launch from pole. Ritomo Miyata did not. Down to fifth by the end of the opening lap after starting second, he lost out to Villagómez, Tsolov and Joshua Duerksen through the first few corners. Kush Maini made it worse for him at the start of Lap 2, going around his outside at the Loop for fifth. Moments later the safety car was called. John Bennett had stopped on the main straight, caught up in an incident involving Sebastián Montoya and Colton Herta.

The Long Chase

Racing resumed on Lap 7 with Minì still leading. Roman Bilinski went around the outside of Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak for seventh at Copse. The ART Grand Prix driver closed the door and held it. Tsolov, already up to third on the opening lap, went around the outside of Villagómez at Stowe on Lap 9 to move into second. MP Motorsport told Minì to push, his championship rival now right behind him.

Miyata’s afternoon did not improve. Inthraphuvasak passed him at Stowe for sixth. Bilinski came next, but Miyata closed the door at Brooklands and again at Stowe to hold his points position, before losing it anyway down Hangar Straight on Lap 13. Dino Beganovic followed his DAMS Lucas Oil teammate through a few corners later at the Loop.

At the front, Tsolov had closed to within 0.7 seconds of Minì by the start of Lap 15 of 21. Behind them, Maini went to the inside of Duerksen’s Invicta at Brooklands for fourth, having sat patiently behind him for much of the race. On Lap 16, Tsolov made his first move. The two went wheel-to-wheel through Stowe. Minì defended it and kept the position.

Further back, Inthraphuvasak went around the outside of Duerksen at Luffield to move into fifth, the Paraguayan falling back and coming under pressure from Beganovic, who had just passed his own teammate Bilinski. Beganovic got by Duerksen a few laps later with a move at the inside of the Vale chicane. Bilinski followed him through down Hangar Straight shortly after.

The Final Lap

Tsolov was 0.4 seconds behind Minì on the penultimate lap, Villagómez closing in behind them both. He had found his rival tough to pass twice already. Then Minì locked up into the Loop at the start of the final lap. That was the opening Tsolov needed. With DRS, he took the lead down Wellington Straight and held it to the flag. Minì recovered to hold off Villagómez for second across the line. Maini and Inthraphuvasak followed in fourth and fifth for ART Grand Prix, Beganovic sixth ahead of Bilinski, with Duerksen rounding out the points in eighth.

Final Classification: F2 Silverstone Sprint Race 2026

The FIA final classification confirms two post-race penalties, both applied without changing the finishing order. Car 22, Nico Varrone, took a five second penalty for causing a collision. Car 14, Martinius Stenshorne, took a ten second penalty for forcing another driver off the track. Both drivers finished at the back of the field regardless.

Tsolov and Minì are now tied at the top of the Drivers’ Championship on 116 points each, the Campos Racing man ahead on countback with five wins to his name this season.

Coffee Corner Take

Minì had this race won for the best part of a lap. He defended Stowe cleanly on Lap 16, held Tsolov at 0.4 seconds on the penultimate lap, did everything right until the one moment he didn’t. A lock-up into the Loop with nowhere else on the final lap to make that mistake. Second place is still his eighth podium of the season. That’s the margin between staying clear of the championship and handing it straight back level.

Tsolov’s fifth win says more about his season than the points table does right now. It’s the number that puts him ahead on countback tonight, and it’s the number that matters if this fight goes to the wire in Abu Dhabi. Starting sixth and finishing the job on the final lap of a race he spent most of stuck behind the man he needed to beat, that’s not luck. That’s patience that paid off at exactly the right corner.

Villagómez doesn’t get the headline but he’s third again, right there in the mix at Silverstone the way he has been most of the year. He’s not leading the title conversation. He’s forcing himself into the points conversation every week.

The penalties for Varrone and Stenshorne barely move the needle on this result, both were already at the back, but the stewards did their job regardless. Causing a collision costs five seconds. Forcing someone off the track costs ten. Consistent application, even when it changes nothing on the road.

Twenty-four hours until the Feature Race, same circuit, same two drivers now level on points. Minì has a day to forget the Loop. Tsolov has a day to remember exactly how he got there.
