Race Recap: F2 Monaco Sprint Race 2026
The Start: León Holds, Early Contact in the Midfield
León got away cleanly from pole and held the lead into the first corner. Bilinski slotted into second. Minì kept third ahead of Duerksen. Further back, Miyata and Goethe went wheel-to-wheel through the Hairpin and Mirabeau on the opening lap. They made contact. Miyata continued with a broken front wing. Goethe pitted and dropped to the back of the field, eventually retiring.
Van Hoepen, starting from twenty-first, was already pushing forward. He was handed a 10-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage at the start before his charge through the field could properly begin.
Early Laps: León and Bilinski Covered by DRS
Bilinski stayed within DRS range of León through the opening phase. The top four of León, Bilinski, Minì and Duerksen pulled clear of the rest. By Lap 5, two seconds covered the quartet. León was managing the gap, never giving Bilinski a clean run at the lead.
Beganovic closed on Duerksen as the race reached the halfway point, sitting within DRS range of the Invicta Racing driver. Miyata was working through traffic in the midfield, carrying the front wing damage from the opening lap.
Mid-Race: León Begins to Pull Clear
By Lap 18 León and Bilinski had built a three-second gap to Minì. The Italian was running alone, 2.3 seconds clear of Duerksen in fourth with Beganovic right with him. Miyata finally cleared Inthraphuvasak at Tabac on Lap 22. Tsolov set the fastest lap on Lap 23.
Inthraphuvasak retired to the pitlane with an issue five laps from the end. León stretched the gap to Bilinski to 2.4 seconds. Minì was closing on the DAMS driver, within a second on Lap 27.
Final Lap: León Unchallenged
León pulled clear in the closing laps and was over three seconds clear by the final lap. He crossed the line 3.1 seconds ahead of Bilinski, who held off Minì’s late charge to take second. Duerksen fourth. Beganovic fifth. Stenshorne sixth. Maini seventh. Câmara eighth.
“Feels great to win in Monaco, my second win in a row on a weekend and in a Sprint. I feel very happy to be honest. Yesterday we missed a bit, we missed pole, but luckily it put me in a position to start on the front row today, to get the 10 points, and for the championship it is great. I have a great opportunity tomorrow to score again good points, that’s the goal for this weekend and I am very happy that every weekend we are stronger and stronger.”

Post-Race Penalties: F2 Monaco Sprint Race 2026
Miyata was handed a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision with Goethe on the opening lap. The stewards determined Miyata was wholly responsible for the contact. He stays eleventh in the final classification.
Duerksen was handed a five-place grid penalty for the Feature Race. During qualifying, Duerksen rendered two Option compound tyres unusable, leaving Invicta Racing unable to comply with Article 24.15 of the FIA Formula 2 Sporting Regulations. The stewards found no force majeure. The penalty applies to the Feature Race, where the new option tyre would have been required. Duerksen drops to eighteenth on the Feature Race grid.
Championship Picture After Monaco Sprint
Minì leads the Drivers’ Championship on 63 points. León second on 43. Stenshorne third on 38. Câmara fourth on 37. Tsolov fifth on 36. In the Teams’ standings, Campos Racing lead on 79 points from MP Motorsport on 75. Rodin Motorsport third on 68, Invicta Racing fourth on 58, DAMS Lucas Oil fifth on 38.
Coffee Corner Take
León did not just win Monaco. He managed it. Bilinski was in his mirrors for the first half of the race, close enough that one mistake on the narrow streets would have made it interesting. León did not make that mistake. He pulled away when it mattered and finished with a margin that looked comfortable by the end. Two sprint wins from the last two weekends. The pace has been there for a while. The results are starting to reflect it.
Bilinski’s podium is worth more than a number beside his name. DAMS Lucas Oil have had a difficult season and he dragged a result out of Monaco that the team needed. First F2 podium at one of the hardest circuits on the calendar. That stays with a driver.
Minì did not need to win today. He is 20 points clear of León and the Feature Race is still to come. He is managing the championship now rather than chasing it. Third at Monaco is three points added with minimal risk taken. That is how you protect a lead.
Tsolov is fifth in the standings. The gap to Minì has stretched and the Feature Race tomorrow is the last chance to cut into it before the series moves on. He has the pace. A fastest lap in the sprint is not nothing. But points are.
The Feature Race starts at 09:25 local time on Sunday. Circuit de Monaco will ask different questions. It usually does.
