Formula E returns to its roots with Rounds 10 and 11 at the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix, where title leader Oliver Rowland looks to extend his dominant form in the competitive GEN3 Evo era.

After nine thrilling and unpredictable rounds, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship lands in China for the first time since 2019. As Season 11 charges into the Shanghai International Circuit, the all-new GEN3 Evo car faces its first outing on one of motorsport’s most recognisable layouts, promising more surprises and edge-of-the-seat action.

The weekend marks Rounds 10 and 11 of the season, and with the return of the PIT BOOST strategy and a deep championship field, it’s all still to play for.

⚡ Rowland’s Momentum Shows No Signs of Slowing

With 161 points and a commanding championship lead, Oliver Rowland has emerged as the man to beat. The Nissan driver has been unstoppable: four wins, three second-place finishes, and three straight poles since Monaco — including a dominant showing in Berlin.

His consistency has left rivals like Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche, 84 points) scrambling to keep up. But as we’ve seen all year, surprises are never far away.

Eight different teams sit in the top ten of the Drivers’ standings, and the podium has already welcomed 14 different drivers, including:

  • 🏆 Taylor Barnard — four podiums in a breakout rookie campaign
  • 🇯🇵 Dan Ticktum — first-ever podium for CUPRA Kiro in Tokyo
  • 🇳🇱 Nyck de Vries — a Monaco return for Mahindra Racing

🔋 PIT BOOST: Strategy in the Spotlight

The much-anticipated return of PIT BOOST for Round 10 is set to add a new layer of excitement to the race. This mandatory 30-second stop gives a 10% energy bump (3.85 kWh), and with each team having just one rig, the timing of this strategic move is crucial. Double-stacking is off the table, making this a key tactical decision that could decide the outcome.

It’s the latest twist in a season that’s already shown us how crucial strategic thinking can be — and one that Rowland and Nissan will have to master all over again.

🏟️ Shanghai’s Return: A Homecoming with History

The Shanghai International Circuit, a venue no stranger to world-class motorsport, is set to make a thrilling return to Formula E in the GEN3 Evo era.

The version in use this weekend is a shortened 3.051km layout, keeping iconic elements like Turns 1 and 2, where ATTACK MODE will be activated. Expect fast straights, hard braking zones, and plenty of opportunities to manage — or mismanage — energy strategy.

This marks a return to a country that hosted Formula E’s first race in Beijing in 2014. Since then, the championship has visited Hong Kong, Sanya, and Shanghai itself, with eight different winners from nine races in China.

🌱 Off-Track: Sustainability, Education & Community Impact

Formula E continues to set the benchmark for sustainability in sport.

In Shanghai, that means:

  • 🌍 100% renewable energy & HVO fuel
  • 💰 €25,000 donation to the Shanghai Mutual Aid Foundation
  • 👩‍🔬 FIA Girls on Track — engaging 120+ young women
  • 🧒 Inspiration Hour — pit lane walks and STEM workshops
  • 🗣️ Change. Accelerated. Live. — climate and innovation talks at the historic Bund

Formula E isn’t just delivering green racing — it’s investing in local communities at every stop.
