Nick Cassidy delivered Jaguar TCS Racing’s second win of the Formula E season — and the first lights-to-flag victory of the GEN3 Evo era — with a faultless drive through the rain at the Shanghai International Circuit, while Pascal Wehrlein led a TAG Heuer Porsche double podium to reignite his title campaign.
After a chaotic dry-to-wet race on Saturday, Sunday’s Round 11 brought relentless downpours and razor-thin margins — but Cassidy made it look effortless. Starting from pole after a shortened qualifying session, the Kiwi controlled every lap of a race that tested concentration and car control, finally ending a winless drought that had stretched back to the tail end of Season 9.
“This weekend is a massive highlight,” Cassidy said. “There have been so many wins that probably should have been ours… and now to get that monkey off the back is awesome.”
Porsche Fights Back
TAG Heuer Porsche bounced back from a non-score on Saturday in emphatic style. Reigning world champion Pascal Wehrlein got the better of teammate António Félix da Costa during the opening ATTACK MODE phase and managed tyre wear masterfully through the mid-phase of the race to bring home second.
“It was the first time we’ve been really competitive in the wet,” Wehrlein reflected. “I’m very happy with that — a real breakthrough after struggling in Tokyo and Monaco.”
Da Costa, battling rear-end grip throughout, settled for third — his third podium in five races — and played the team game to help Porsche overhaul Nissan in the Teams’ World Championship.
Title Picture Tightens
While Oliver Rowland still leads the Drivers’ standings with 171 points, Porsche’s one-two swing shrinks his lead to just 68 over Wehrlein (103), with da Costa now third on 88. Importantly, Porsche leapfrogs Nissan in the Teams’ table, though the Japanese manufacturer still leads the FIA Manufacturers’ Championship by a single point.
Behind the Podium
Maserati MSG’s Jake Hughes delivered a season-best P4 ahead of DS PENSKE’s Jean-Éric Vergne. At the same time, Nico Müller (Andretti) again showed his wet-weather prowess with a composed drive to sixth. Stoffel Vandoorne spun late on but salvaged seventh, with Frijns, di Grassi and rookie Taylor Barnard rounding out the points.
It was a day of attrition for many: Jake Dennis, Nyck de Vries, Dan Ticktum and Sam Bird all struggled in the wet while standing water kept marshals — and drivers — on high alert throughout.
Laofengxiang’s Trophy Debut
Shanghai also marked a historic first for Chinese luxury: Laofengxiang, China’s oldest jewellery house, became the official trophy provider for the E-Prix — the first time a Chinese brand has partnered with an FIA World Championship in such a role. The hand-crafted trophies, steeped in cultural symbolism, were awarded across both race days.
Fashion Meets Formula E
Streetwear label CLOT partnered with Formula E to launch a limited-edition capsule collection and a custom GEN3 Evo livery, blending its East-meets-West design identity with the series’ commitment to sustainability. The drop marked Formula E’s stylish and symbolic return to China, drawing global eyes to both its fashion and racing culture.
